Summary

Raj must find a new job or be sent back to India, but Sheldon has a solution, which leaves Leonard and Penny dealing with Howard as third wheel.

Episode Outline

I. living room, Monday evening

• The guys are celebrating Columbus Day by watching The Goonies, Gremlins and Young Sherlock Holmes.
• Penny joins them and discusses Thanksgiving, when Raj suddenly sobs and runs away.

Titles and opening theme

II. living room

• Once Penny left the room, Raj tells the guys that he is going to be deported because he will lose his job. Sheldon suggests to become a pirate, while Penny suggest (through the apartment door) that he should get another job.

III. cafeteria

• Raj and Sheldon have an argument about Hindu culture.
• Howard turns up and tells them that Professor Laughlin will join the university. Raj immediately phones him to make a date for an interview.

IV. Prof. Laughlin's office

• Raj's interview with Professor Laughlin initally goes well but turns bad when another member of his group, Dr. Catherine Millstone turns up.

V. living room

• Raj tells Howard and Leonard that he didn't get the job.
• Sheldon turns up and offers Raj to work for him. Raj rejects.

VI. Sheldon's office

• Raj has changed his mind and wants to work with Sheldon, who corrects that it would be working for him.

VII. Living room

• Leonard and Penny watch Sex and the City: The Movie and are enjoying some private time when Howard turns up.

VIII. Sheldon's office

• Sheldon and Raj try to design an experiment to look for the annilation factor resulting from collision of dark matter in space.

IX. kitchen of Leonard's and Sheldon's apartment, Sunday morning

• Leonard and Penny get up to find Howard in the kitchen who made breakfast. They try to explain they'd like some privacy but in the end let him stay.

X. Sheldon's office

• Sheldon and Raj have an argument about the equations Sheldon proposed. Raj leaves.

XI. hallway in front of Raj's apartment

• Sheldon apologises to Raj, telling him that he was right and that he would like him to come back and work with him.

Timeline

This episode starts on the evening of Monday, October 12, 2009 (Columbus Day). In final scene with Leonard and Penny, Howard mentions that it's Sunday morning. Therefore it can be assumed that the events of the episode take place over one week and the final scene with Sheldon and Raj is on Sunday, October 18, 2009.

Title

The title refers to Sheldon's suggestion that Raj should become a pirate after he lost his job. "Solution" references Sheldon's offer for Raj to work for (not with) him on order to stay in the country.
