Crawley, Professor

A highly frustrated professor at the Entomology Department at Caltech who is forced to quit his job in 2009 when the university cuts the funding for his lab. His marriage broke down when he spent six month in Borneo, during which time his wife started an affair with an ornithologist, a "tramp, who lives on a boat and likes to wear boot-cut jeans". These circumstances are forcing him to move in with his daughter who lives in Oxnard ("We're not talking Oxnard at the beach. No! We're talking Oxnard in the onion fields!").

He has been studying insects since he was eight years old, which got him the nickname "Creepy Crawley" in school. He claims he is the world's leading expert on the dung beetle and that he could identify every insect and arachnid (spider-related) species on the planet. While in Borneo, he discovered and named the "Crawley's dung beetle".

In his lab, a large number of terrariums containing scorpions, spiders, centipedes can be seen.

Sheldon, Howard and Raj went to the lab of Professor Crawley to settle a bet between Howard and Sheldon determining the species of a cricket they had caught. Professor Crawley identified the cricket as a common field cricket, proving that Howard was correct. He shared his frustration with the guys who seemed rather uncomfortable. They were happy to leave quickly once they'd got their answer, but not before Raj made an attempt to comfort the professor (0302). It was also revealed that Raj suffers from entomophobia.

Professor Crawley is played by Lewis Black.
