Dixie Trek Convention
Science fiction convention held in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1995, which 15-year-old Sheldon attended (travelling ten hours by bus from his home in Texas). He wore his Starfleet cadet uniform and brought along a mint condition in-package Wesley Crusher action figure to be signed by Wil Wheaton, who was scheduled to appear. However, Wheaton didn't turn up and Sheldon has hated the actor ever since.
In reality, all the Dixie-Trek conventions were held in Atlanta, Georgia. As a matter of interest, in 1994, (the year before Wil Wheaton was scheduled to appear in the TBBT alternate reality) the convention's special guest was Christopher Reeve, the actor who played Superman. This was the actor's first and only appearance at a US convention; he was severely injured in a fall from a horse less than a year later.
