Trans-Neptunian objects

A class of small objects to be found beyond the orbit of Neptune in the solar system. There are a great number of these objects. The best known is Pluto, but a few others are large enough to be considered minor planets as well, including Eris, which is even larger than Pluto, and which like Pluto has a moon orbiting it.

Raj was researching trans-Neptunian objects but his research hit a dead end in April 2009. He spent the next six months wasting time until finally he realised that he couldn't keep up the ruse and that when he lost his job at Caltech, he would be deported.
