White asparagus

A variety of asparagus which is deprived of light while growing. White asparagus has a more delicate taste than the more common green variety.

Leonard and Sheldon had a jar of white asparagus in their refrigerator toward the end of November, 2008, when Stephanie Barnett was visiting. Sheldon pretended not to be able to open the jar and asked Leonard to open it for him, intending this to demonstrate to Stephanie that Leonard was the "alpha male". Despite the fact that Sheldon had pre-loosened it, Leonard broke the jar while trying to open it and cut his hand. He saw the blood, threw up in the sink, then "cried like a baby" when his wound was being stitched up.
